Sonic 2 is the sequel game to the hit Sonic The Hedgehog on the same system (Obviously). This game is actually quite a step up from the previous game despite some of the flaws it has going on.
Well, The first thing to note is how this game actually features the Spindash! This ability Sonic has will now make it to where you can rev up Sonic and manage to gain instant speed, making climbing some obsticles much easier. Another thing to mention is that this is the game that introduces Tails "Miles" Prower, The twin tailed Fox character who helps Sonic on his journey! Okay let's be real I think everyone knows who Tails is, He doesn't need any introduction. But yeah, This game with the new features and stuff makes it a very fun Sonic game, Though midway through it starts to get a bit tedious with some obsticles in the way. This game features more zones but less acts in most of em, However I feel like this game might be longer than Sonic 1 in terms of content that this game has. The beginning Zones are just really fun, and really gives you that feeling of fastness that Sonic should have had in the first game, Though as I said earlier, The later half does get a bit more harder with trap placements and mechanics, Some are fun to deal with while some others are kinda annoying. It can be a mix bag but I actually kind of think they're more fun than what they had in Sonic 1.
I think the biggest issue I have with this game is the lack of clarity of where you need to go in order to get the Chaos Emeralds. I only got one the entire time and it was just out of nowhere to me, I'm sure there's actual indicators of where the Chaos Emeralds are located but I cannot help but to feel how random it is to get them. Though the Special Stage I think is actually an improvement over Sonic 1's stupid fucking pinball rotation zone thingy. But as I just looked up, I did not realize that the requirement was to get 50 rings, run through a checkpoint and a warp will appear which I still never saw before. I guess now with the knowledge, It's probably not so bad, After all these games were made to be replayed.
Other than that, This was a straight up improvement over the first game, The music is fucking BANGING and even better than the original game, The final 3 levels were something else, I don't hate them but man were they just something. It's especially anxiety inducing when you have to fight the Death Egg with 0 rings on you which I feel like they should have given some rings like they do in the later games before the boss fight but it adds challenge, and I faced that challenge. This game also features a 2 Player mode that I don't think I will ever do. Overall, I highly reccomend this game to start out with than Sonic 1, I don't know why Sega loves to milk Sonic 1 so much as it's a very inferior game, Green Hill Zone doesn't have shit on Emerald Hill Zone.
